I'm not convinced Badenoch considers things particularly carefully, limited understanding and comprehension. Probably that Meloni is maybe to the right and an opportunity for a photo with somebody in power that can be posted to Social Media is as far as any thought process.

She is also celebrating Meloni’s longevity as Italy’s PM. I suppose she has been in post nearly 4 years now….

Well, given that Meloni hasn't blown up the economy in order to own the libs, nor left the EU in the quest for nationalist unicorni, maybe Badenoch is correct, as experience would suggest that those are all traits that the far right pursue with gusto. And to be fair to her, she is neither Berlusconi nor Trump. Small mercies, and all that.

Though that might tie in with this, that suggests that right-wingers are much more likely (against the evidence of other polling) that their views are shared by the majority. I think that this is where Badenoch's misplaced self-confidence comes from, and might not be entirely unrelated to her social media immersion and focus (especially on Musk's X).
