Apparently 282hp with 402lb-ft torque, 0-60 in 6 seconds (it's not a Tesla). I don't often need to go from 0 to 60 though. Usually 0-30 which I'd estimate to be around 2 seconds. I've also never been stranded.

Spoiler - almost everywhere you go has an electrical point of some sort.

OK. No traffic light worries for me then ^_^ But as mentioned in my post above, things like handling are important and the weight of EV is something that counts against them. And as for sound - well, there's just no competition.

I was about to explain that it's also about things like handling, sound, fun etc. Don't spoil it

We should all be driving around in batsh!t insane Rally B cars then.

Nobody's forcing you, but I do confess that my old Evo 6 road going rally replica was cracking fun back in the day, especially on track days. Life's too short to drive a sh1t car - in my humble opinion 🙂

Well no. You can hear everything in an EV. The audio system is far better. No noisy engine to try and play music over.

Honestly, my ID is pretty nippy and handles pretty well. Mind you, so does my daughter's Fiat 500. Less nippy though.

Tbh some of the best fun I had was in my old 205gti yonks ago. Mostly down to weight and handling.

I recall being given a lift back home in pal's Jaguar E-Pace. On this empty flat straight road section he showed me just how fierce was the acceleration. My back hurt for several days! It was v quiet though, so he didn't qualify as a bellend.

And a engineer/petrolhead friend of mine did similar in his top-of-the range BMW electric thingy - he changed from his previous Range Rover because of the mahoosive tax difference, but it's fair to say that accelerating up an inclined slip road to join the dual carriageway was deeply impressive, and he might just have broken the speed limit momentarily (by more than a couple of MPH). He'd managed to make his wife throw up when he did similar for her. I don't think he misses the ICE noise in any way at all.

My ideal car is quiet, and comfortable over long distances. That's all I care about. My annual mileage these days is less than 5k a year. Though I did do around a 100 miles today, most of it quite slowly as broom wagon for a road race. (which requires a surprising degree of concentration, especially on winding downhill sections).

I think in Europe at least a small Tesla will have to be really, really good to compete. There are so many "small" electric cars out now that are genuinely good with a range of approximately 200 miles even in the winter. Renault is a case in point. A decade ago they had a bunch of boring cars. Their EV lineup for small cars is now being lauded across the board. The Renault 4, Renault 5 and the older Renault megane E-tech are genuinely good cars with decent build quality and most importantly for this sector a great design that is somewhat retro but not so much that they appear to be a gimmick. I think the Renault 5 EV could end up being a classic like older French cars such as the original 5 or the Peugeot 205. And this is without thinking about the China offerings

They missed their sweet spot window by at least a couple of years.

The Birmingham 6 and the Guildford 4 were innocent. The Renault 5 on the other hand ...

I miss proper, old-fashioned French suspension.

If you like old-fashioned French suspension, you don't need to look any further than Couperin.
