You think Liz Truss escaped criticism?

I do recall lots of jibes about her doing geography and not very well. Which was fair because she'd just crashed the economy.

At the time I put the fact that the equally culpable Krazy Kwarteng got off comparatively lightly on two assumptions on my part, 1. Truss was the lack of brains driving the budget 2. People didn't want to be accused of racism with an ill judged insult. An alternative explanation might be that Reeves, Truss, Rayner etc. all happen to be women.

Rachel Reeves claimed to have been an economist at HBOS, but was actually a Complaints Support Manager. I don't see any politician doing that not being subject to more scrutiny. If she had got a job as an economist, she would likely have been fired. Fortunately, in this case, she is just the chancellor.

Did Osborne have the same scrutiny? Don't remember him being accused of overstating his work record or penis length.

It's the usual consequence of being found to have lied on your CV.

Certainly not to the same degree. But by the same token he was a lot less crap than Truss.

Reeves is being singled out a bit, I agree. Some is self inflicted because she's in the public eye and massaged her CV more than I've ever done, vis. her time at the BoE. Some of the rest is inflicted by Labours over use of trial balloons. Hard to say how much of that is the treasury, naivety or hubris, but it's hugely damaging.

Note however that Lammy did exactly this in order to decide between 2, 3 or 5 year potential sentences for non-jury trials, and no one has yet questioned whether he was under 12's school tiddlywinks champion or not.

I do not remember anyone digging into her background.
The well deserved criticism she got was for her time in power, and for best best pay-off in UK political history.

Maybe there was no NEED to dig any deeper?

That would imply that being accused of being a racist. is more worrying than being accused of being a mysogynist, interesting.
