Not exactly the biggest surprise. Labour took the Scottish vote for granted for years, and since losing power have become increasingly bitter, caring more about trying to discredit the SNP than actually doing anything for the country.

Sounds very similar to Tyne & Wear, except for SNP, read Reform.

Is it not the role of the government to do good for the country and the role of the opposition to discredit the government

Sounds like you are complaining they are doing their role and not doing the role of the SNP

You know what they say about assumptions...

I've always, rightly or wrongly, wanted the opposition to be challenging government in meaningful ways, not just talking pish at every opportunity.

Who is assuming anything? Not sure what the reference to assumptions is about

So, lets get this right you are upset not at the government for not governing the way you want to, but instead are more upset because those in power , ie the opposition are not opposing in the way you want ?

Well, based on the evidence of the Conservative Government since 2015, I'm not sure we can substantiate that.
Sounds like a quaint old fashioned notion.

I believe that the role of the Government between 2015 and 2024 was primarily to enrich yourself and your mates, generally stir up discontent and sod everyone else. The role of the opposition was to run round in circle, flapping their hands and trying to shout louder about the same things. At the same time, the odd boy who doesn't play with the other kids got a lot of money to suggest that Hitler was a nice guy.

Am I right?

Again, more incorrect assumptions. But I'll leave that tedious nonsense.

I'm not upset, I just think that the way that Labour have conducted themselves in Scotland for decades is really poor and has done them no credit. Scottish politics is even more of a mess than what we have in England just now, which takes some doing.

Think you are confusing the role with the actions.

Just because someone doesn't perform their role well, doesn't mean its not their role.

On a non political level, a goalkeepr in football has the role of preventing the ball going into the net. If he makes a hash of that , it doesn't mean the role has changed, it means the goalkeeper has failed in his role

That may be your view of what they actually did ( and you may be right), but that was not their role

Not sure why we are now into Godwin's Law territory

Do you actually know what an asumption is?
In my last post, I have not assumed anything. I asked a question to clarify your position. That is not an assumption

£2 bus fares are coming back. I like that policy.

So far, the evidence is that Burnham does politics better than Starmer: whereas Starmer was saying how miserable we all had to be the moment he got in because of hard choices, Burnham has done two small but noticeable things, at the same time talking about a 10-year plan.

That's not to say that he won't screw up in short order once it comes to the 10-year plan, but it makes it easier to do less popular stuff if you've got more people on your side believing that you want to make their lives a bit easier/better.

Sad we have such low expectations. Understandable though.

Are you sure £2 bus fares are popular? You're not thinking like a motorist here who is getting nothing.

Oooh, that's a bit snippy, almost abusive some would say, insulting my vocabulary like that.

You have assumed my position, twice.

Like I said though, tedious.
