The two statements can both be true.

It is unwise to ignore the effect that press and media can and do have. Most voters do not read Hansard, or study the minute details of Budget or Defence Review and get their information from the press and media, no matter the level of bias, or in which direction.

Yeah we don't want a PM or other politician to see how for example someone can't get out of a train because the wheelchair assist fails again. They might think "maybe we can do this better" instead off what their billionaire party sponsors tell them to do.

Newspaper circulations have diminished significantly since then. It depends on the demographic, I suppose, but, “mainstream” TV coverage is not much watched by the under 50s (that’s a guess on my part), my “adult” grandchildren (17-34yo) get all of their “news “ via Social Media.
