About £39 million went to the NHS. £1.4 million went in "shrinkage". HMG and its minnions cancelled an NHS contract for IT about ten years ago. They had pissed £10 billion up the wall with very little to show for it.

Indignant frothing over Captain Tom's charity is a tad misdirected n'est-ce pas?

.im almost certain that his family felt exactly the same. As if they deserved a good pay out for all their hard work. And everyone else is at it anyway.

I'm OK to hack into your bank account as long as I only take a few thousand?

I would rather you didn't. I didn't like HMG hacking into all of our bank accounts to the tune of £10 billion either.

This good news story just popped up on line.
I’ve never heard of this guy, I don’t recall a huge media campaign backing him. And by the sounds of it, no thieving relatives either, just a life time of charitable works.

I wonder why the tabloids weren’t supporting his efforts. Anyone want to guess?

Maybe his friends/relatives were not good at bringing him to the media’s attention?

Or

Maybe there is another, darker, reason?

Maybe its because it wasn't news - Captain Tom did it first and so it was news.
This gentlemen , according to the article was "inspired by" Captain Tom, so not the first.

We all celebrate someone who comes first, far less publicity is given to someone who comes second.

We all remember for example Bradley Wiggins won the 2012 TdF - far fewer would recall who was 2nd there.

Bold claim on a cycling adjacent forum. It was Froome.

Not bold at all, far fewer people remember the person who came second.

That does not mean some people won't remember it. As in this case, clearly the Metro "remembered" what the chap did
