I am delighted, once again, to be taking part in the Sheffield edition of "Big Ride for Palestine" on 9th August 2025 🚴‍♀️.



Now, more than ever, we need to take a stand against genocide and apartheid, where children are being systematically starved to death.
With these children at the forefront of our thoughts, my nephew and I are riding to raise funds for the Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA https://www.mecaforpeace.org/) to provide emergency aid to children and families in Palestine.

Hmm. How does that fit with The Equality Act 2010, I wonder. Seems to discriminate against an ethnic group.

I logged in here give a CC member his password using the admin log in, which is not a mod log in, because there are no mods on NCA&P
However I also have a personal account from when I used to discuss agricultural politics with @mudsticks.

Well, yes, the discrimination is against political themed rides on CC.
It was explained to @Mazz that because on CC the mods had already deleted a political ride in aid of the Jewish people affected by the war, we could not leave a ride raising funds for Palestine.
That would have been discrimination!
On the by, imo, while the thought is laudable, the funds raised won't be reaching the Palestinian people anytime soon, because no aid has been getting in for quite a while now.

If promoting political themed rides is not allowed on CC, then so be it (I don't make the rules). Therefore, the fact that you'd previously deleted a charity thread in support of Jews affected by the war is irrelevant w.r.t. the explanation of the deletion of my thread.

Any charity appeal is political since the existence of charities shows a failure of government, but banning all such posts would be a ridiculous stance to take on any forum. The easiest answer to avoid any discrimination is to allow all charitable appeals, not pick and choose the ones you don’t want to be involved with.

Mods on CC have allowed charity appeals for Sudan and Ukraine but when it comes to Israel/Palestine the shields go up.

Double standards doesn't even begin to describe it.

Have to admit that charity appeals on forums & FB Groups & the like is a minefield (please excuse the unfortunately apt metaphor), as the requests range from the ones basically asking people to fund a jolly (the ones where half of the 'sponsorship' goes to paying a tour company) through to politically divisive ones. I'll admit to preferring the FB Groups I'm admin on not allowing any at all, so there's no chance of fractious pollitical discussion entering groups that aren't there for political ends.

What discrimination against any ethnic group?

They are not allowing political posts in cycle chat. That is not discriminating against a group.

They are not saying only Palestinian political posts are banned, its all political posts.

So, let's hear how you think the Equality Act applies?

The OP deliberately chose to flout the rules there and its irrelevant of the merits of the ride, its a political subject
