Simpler to just cut out all the mountains, no?

Cut out the only areas that will possibly be cool? 😉
Anyone who has descended down a mountain through a hair dryer and into an oven will know that the valleys are no fun either.

I genuinely think they'd have had to call off days over the past week if it had been on then and well over 40C, for risk of being sued for fatalities. There are no real mitigations once you get to that kind of temperature. If I'm determined to go for a ride when it's proper hot, I escape to the plateau behind the house which is 5-10C cooler, but sooner or later, you have to return to the furnace.

I’ve been getting all my rides in before 09:00.
Had to cool down this afternoon with a swim in Lake Garda.
That is sympathy I hear. Isn’t it? 😉

Love Lake Garda, been lots of times. Over the years they've really improved it with new bathing areas and easy access to the lake. I'd only go in May if we went again. Went once in August and it was unbearable. Bought a Cristallo's ice cream at Bardolino and by the time we'd got to the ferry it had run down my arm and was mostly a puddle on the floor.

The vuelta is often pretty hot and keeps going

The year I went to the Dolomites to do the Stelvio, Gavia, Mortirolo etc. was a 40+ degree heatwave. I rode the Stelvio in 42 degrees which was probably rather daft but there were dozens of people riding it that day. Worst part was at night, I was staying in a small chalet style room with no aircon and a window that opened about eight inches. Six nights of no sleep!

Yeah, it's just that surely there's got to be a tipping point somewhere, hasn't there? In my amateur way I've done daft day-long rides in 35C heat, but at some point their human physiology is just going to succumb to being severely overheated given their level of exertion and react in devastating ways, especially 40C+.
