Theres only one way to settle this, we’ve tried it their way for a few centuries, let’s give it a go without them for a few and see what works best?
People would pay a blooming mint to sleep in the Queens bedroom.

I guess that the instant changeover is so we never get the chance to realise that we don't need them. Which, of course, means that royalists never really get the chance to simply grieve because they have to jump the grief ship and celebrate the new monarch with a speed that seems indecent to me.

I was more 'objecting' to the theorising on the possible future actions of an as yet non-existent independent Scottish Government.

If it’s any consolation, the policy of the current party in power is to retain the monarchy after Scotland achieves independence.

The point is that a sitting monarchy is not a prerequisite for high tourist traffic. I believe the Palace of Versailles (referred to earlier by TC) brings in more money than all of the royal residences in the UK.

Latest figures I can find suggest that Versailles receives £46 million a year towards cost from the French government. In 2015 they were planning to convert some buildings to a hotel to generate more income.

I can't image that the UK royal houses would garner the numbers visiting Versailles as, apart from Buck House, they are a bit out of the way, whereas Versailles is easily accessible from Paris. I could actually see places like Sandringham being sold off in a few decades as the Royal Family becomes smaller, but the reality is they will end up owned by Saudi princes, the Chinese government, or a billionaire. They won't be open to the public, except as a hotel, the likes of which none of us on here will be able to afford.

My doctors appointment has been cancelled for 19th. Which I’m ok with. But apparently all funerals have been cancelled which I find very sad. Why would one dead person’s funeral be more important than another?

And Centreparcs are closing too! No one will have access to their sub tropical paradise.
