Well, that is not how it reads to me, perhaps you need some punctuation?

When you are in a hole stop digging.

Do you have holidays?

If yes, camping, or hotel?, because presumably Holiday Homes are verboten?

I answered your question about camping or hotel above with  two sentences...separated by a full stop to emphasise they were different sentences, as is the custom. The  first referred to why I prefer hotels to holiday homes, and which was nothing to do with cost. The  second referred to how we went camping when we could not afford anything else and how I would not do it now.

You said "You have had self-catering cottage holidays, when that was what you could afford". I did not say that anywhere.

I suggest you read things more carefully before jumping in in your haste to make a point.

OMG. EVERYBODY having a bank holiday, so, poor NHS staff have be off too. So, power stations closing down?; air traffic control closing down?; etc etc. with luck, TV staff will all get a day off too, and there will no coverage. Let us hope none of our houses catch fire, if the fire brigade are all having a Bank Holiday too.
I don't think you understand how bank holiday planning works.

Yes, NHS staff will have a bank holiday. This means that routine and non-urgent appointments will be cancelled. Emergency care will continue as usual as will emergency operations, inpatient nursing, ICU etc. Similarly, Air Traffic Controllers will get a bank holiday - some airports may choose to pay overtime for those willing to work as they are run by private companies who can afford this. Same goes for power stations and journalists.

Firefighters and the Police are the most likely to have to work during a bank holiday as they do emergency work. They are not likely to get paid any extra for doing so. People working for private companies tend to get offered overtime to work on bank holidays. For public sector it's more complicated.

Yes it sucks for the patients but I hate this expectation from some quarters that NHS staff should be expected to go above and beyond their contracted conditions simply because they happen to be employed in a profession dedicated to the care of others. The clues in the name, we're not making the farking bankers work are we, so why should anyone else?

I understand very well how bank holidays work. Daughter No4 is a carer for adults, not necessarily elderly. She will be working on Monday, otherwise, her clients would unable to get out of bed, unable to eat, we won’t bother with the toilet details.

Very noble of you.

You have had self-catering cottage holidays, when that was what you could afford, but, now, you can afford a "bit of luxury", sod those who are now in the situation you once were, and can only afford a Self-catering Cottage.

He's got a 40k pension, don't you know.

I'm not sure I need to be concerned for the Queen's health any more, but I had a phonecall this morning - apologetic voice explaining that Monday was now a bank holiday so my hospital appointment was cancelled (by someone who doesn't know the difference between cancelled and postponed). It's now rescheduled for October. I may have been a little grumpy.
