She's shitting her pants over German car makers and all the associated industries

VW are looking to lose 30k jobs apparently. That was before the tariffs were announced. Many will go through retirement but the German car industry is struggling quite a bit.

Eu already wanting to have zero tariff deal. Von Der lying offering zero tariffs on industrial goods.

I think USA will want a fair bit more.

Okay, so if you do a deal without tariffs, how are you going to spend the tariff revenue you don't have.

It's that fundamental contradiction again. Annoying, isn't it.

Anyhow, the EU and probably the US always "want" tarriff free trade. The issue is the terms.

Good luck balancing trade, if you really buy the demented logic that a trade imbalance amounts to a tariff (are we back to the barter system now?) and even more luck overcoming resistance from the farming lobby and indeed any other industry with higher regulatory standards than the US.

It's difficult to believe how stupid his formula for calculating the tariff levels is. I assumed I had misunderstood but it is stupider than you could ever imagine.

I know it's only a figleaf for his attempt to eliminate income tax, but it really is stupid.

Wasn’t sure I fully understood it. As 99% of Swiss trade with US is duty free but now has a 32% tariff thanks to orange manbaby. Stephen Nolan on the radio mentioned something along the lines that these tariffs are not reciprocal based on taxes imposed from the other side but a tax on the deficit in trade with the other side countries. Which I hadn’t realised as the orange one emphasised ’reciprocal’ and then went on to say what reciprocal means. It was probably his new word of the day.
Can’t help thinking if you want to sell more through exports, then make stuff people in other countries want to buy. They like Swiss watches in the states. I guess they’ll be even more a status symbol now.
He really is clueless for a ’businessman’.

As others have said backing down isn't something DJT is known for, and some wounds heal slowly if at all.
Why would he even consider backing down. His tariffs are working well, achieving what exactly Trump wants ... All world leaders talking 24/7 about Trump, TV covering nothing other than Trump, virtually every head of government desperately begging for an audience, worldwide population avidly discussing Trump, leaders of US industry and commerce all wanting meetings with him, etc. He's in heaven. Why would he want it to stop!

By selling more goods due to no tariffs.

The tariffs are just a stick to get trade barriers dropped. The USA is by far the biggest consumer of world goods. All other nations want to sell their goods to USA, their export markets are geared up to do that. That's why there is massive panic, huge loss of export earnings if they don't sort out a deal. Else tariffs will generate revenue for the USA, world will have to adapt to more protectionism economies
