I think someone suggested there was going to be a 90day pause on starting the tariffs.

Sadly that wasn't true. Don't let that worry you though.

By selling more goods due to no tariffs.

The tariffs are just a stick to get trade barriers dropped. The USA is by far the biggest consumer of world goods. All other nations want to sell their goods to USA, their export markets are geared up to do that. That's why there is massive panic, huge loss of export earnings if they don't sort out a deal. Else tariffs will generate revenue for the USA, world will have to adapt to more protectionism economies

The panic is due to the suddenness and the inability of anything to adjust before damage is done. And it is just reflecting the prices that the various companies he's trying to help are now worth. You know, Apple, Amazon, Tesla, etc.

Wasn’t sure I fully understood it. As 99% of Swiss trade with US is duty free but now has a 32% tariff thanks to orange manbaby. Stephen Nolan on the radio mentioned something along the lines that these tariffs are not reciprocal based on taxes imposed from the other side but a tax on the deficit in trade with the other side countries. Which I hadn’t realised as the orange one emphasised ’reciprocal’ and then went on to say what reciprocal means. It was probably his new word of the day.
Can’t help thinking if you want to sell more through exports, then make stuff people in other countries want to buy. They like Swiss watches in the states. I guess they’ll be even more a status symbol now.
He really is clueless for a ’businessman’.

The Swiss watch industry is one that won't/can't just just relocate to to the US for a number of reasons - This YT video explains it well if you have 10 mins to spare:

The overall theme is pretty consistent with the bigger picture that nobody is a winner in all of this.

Also interestimg is the contradictions inherent in Trumps statements, that the tariffs are allegedly permanent, but that they can also be negotiated. Which from a business point of view means that they probably aren't permanent and that will impact how businesses will react.

Are not a lot of the parts for Swiss watch’s made over the border in France in the Cluses area. I couldn’t watch the video as it was asking me to sign in but there was no means to do so.

An interesting test of the Supreme Court, as the orange rapist's justice department asks the SC to block a ruling by the 4th circuit, requiring the return by midnight tonight, of a man illegally deported to El Salvador.
The man was a green card holding asylum seeker, married to a US citizen. The deportation also violated an earlier judge's ruling from 2019, that the man should not be deported to El Salvador because of a legitimate fear of persecution.

That's why it was a rumour

A bit like that rumour about 4 trillion on the S&P 500 that never was.

It has nothing to do with the tariffs that are imposed by the other party.

Switzerland sell 61% more goods to the USA than they buy from the USA, therefore a 31% tariff is imposed. That's it.

This ignores services, which is important for Switzerland but most importantly ignores what the country is like. Unsurprisingly a lot of poor countries can't afford to buy much that is made in the USA but use their cheap labour to make stuff that is exported there. Hence poorer countries get high tariffs. Mind blowingly stupid.

This is a brief from our IFA

"It is not a time to panic and although equities have fallen globally, many of the diversifiers have risen, which is why we hold them. We are keeping a close eye on things"

Sit tight and ride the waves 👍

Sure is interesting: if they say it's legit, Trump can deport anyone he doesn't like and as soon as that person is in a foreign jail over which the US has no power, there would be no duty or power to undo the wrong. They are getting closer and closer to thinking about other 'solutions'. The history of Trump47 is that each of his mad statements that people have said "He's only joking and won't really do that", he's then done.

Did you pause at all to admire the scientific formula they produced? It had Greek letters in it.
