Ah yes "economical with the truth" Armstrong. He who leant on the planners to move the Hatch Beauchamp by-pass further from his country pad.

I'd forgotten that that was his phrase. Obviously he was a fan of Thatcher (as you would expect him to be, at least publicly), but I would assume from this that he would also be prepared to argue with Thatcher in private.

They are aware, but don’t know what to do about it. UK certainly doesn’t have any ‘cards’. Sitting on the fence between Europe and USA to minimise any damage from offending one side or the other just demonstrates the little influence we have.

If only we were in a collective organisation of european countries...

If only the EU were an effective collective organisation of European countries when trying to do trade deals with Trump. They seemed to just roll over.

Our trade deal with Trump is just about the only aspect that is better since Brexit...and that is only because he regards Starmer as a subservient pet and he is looking forward to his visit with Charlie and riding in a golden coach.

There must no doubt be a delicate balance between having an honest personal relationship that can survive disagreements and the public face of that relationship. I think that Hennessy's reference to a marriage is well chosen.
