Obama didn't demolish part of the WH to build a tacky, overpriced ballroom.

He repaired it. And I'm quite sure he had permission to do it.

No-one complained then for a reason, he didn't wreck it.

I guess the UK equivalent would be demolishing a bit of Buckingham Palace to relocate Andrew's lodge?

No they haven't, Trumps popularity not dented at all over the government lockdown. The reason US citizens know it's democrats are blocking opening up. They dont have any political bombs to throw, because the bill was clean, no strings. Whilst Democrats want $1.5 trillion in benefits for illegal immigrants. Very much doubt that is going to wash.

Ah, but you are talking about X world. Pinno is talking about the real world.

Quick fact checker (for the disillusioned):

Unauthorized immigrants contribute to the U.S. economy through billions of dollars in tax payments, spending on goods and services, and by filling labor needs in various sectors. Millions of unauthorized immigrants pay federal, state, and local taxes, with some estimates suggesting that between 50% and 75% do so, and they also contribute approximately $7 billion annually to the Social Security system. Their spending creates demand, supporting jobs and economic growth.

  • Tax contributions:
An estimated 6 million unauthorized immigrants file individual income tax returns each year, and between 50% and 75% of them pay federal, state, and local taxes. They also contribute an estimated $7 billion annually to the Social Security system.

    • Economic growth:
Their consumer spending generates billions of dollars each year, supporting the U.S. economy and helping to create new jobs.
    • Labor market:
Immigrants, including those without authorization, have historically filled labor needs in various sectors, such as technology and construction, during times of high demand.
    • State-level impact:
A 2006 report noted that in Texas, unauthorized immigrants contributed nearly $18 billion to the state's gross product and $1.58 billion in state revenue, while costing the state about $1.16 billion in services used.
      Cost breakdown:
      • One study found annual health expenditures per person for unauthorized immigrants were $1629, compared to $3795 for authorized immigrants and $6088 for US-born individuals.
      • However, only 7.9% of unauthorized immigrants incurred publicly financed health expenditures, averaging $140 per person annually, compared to 30.1 %of US natives who received $1,385 per person annually.
