I see he’s made a balls up of the ballroom bill. The estimated cost is now over $300 million. All self funded of course. No doubt that will be revised upwards again, at a later date:

No idea why a bloke who goes around treading on everybody’s toes would want a ballroom.
Must be a big Strictly fan.

Maybe to lease it back to the US Government for some extortionate amount? I would not be surprised if his last use of sharpie in office will be to sign a 99 year lease of a Trump corp. ballroom to the US Government.

Just like our Royal Family does to UK taxpayers.

I'm not sure if this is a suggestion or a warning, but I'd not put it past Trump. If he can demolish part of the building without warning and illegally, what's to stop him?

The president doesn't need permission to demolish a building.

There are permits to build on federal property.

Trump is known for getting things done, so in his usual way, gets on with demolishing whilst attaining permits

Its for the future presidents, though he may just get to enjoy the finished article before he ends his term

But here's the issue.

This is not a building in downtown New York or Chicago. This is a national, protected monument that doesn't belong to him, it belongs to the American people.

The WH is iconic. He's destroyed it.

But then so is democracy and "elected representatives", so it the constitution and he destroyed ...

You may thinks it's tacky over priced, but Trump doesn't. I think he's calling the shots on this project not you

Actually starting to wonder if Mike Johnson has any intention of reseating Congress at all, or whether he's using the excuse to keep it shut to let Trump reign (or shit) over everyone without any oversight. The problem with dealing with a movement that actually wants to break everything about government is that breaking things is very easy to do: competence and incompetence are equally effective.

Maybe illegal immigrants or antifa will burn it down?

There were noises about the effects of the premium hike and cuts only biting after the mid terms and this was a deliberate move. That has back fired as people are getting estimates on renewals -way before the mid terms.

Yes, the subsidy expires this year,so the republicans want to extend the subsidy for a year, so that premiums rise after the midterms, very cynical.

Backfired though as they are seeing the hikes way before the mid terms.

On another tack: the Democratic party has seen gains in popularity despite their apparent apathy. That shows you how bad the Republicans are doing.

Yeah, Dems really are still in disarray, with no apparent leader, and too many old guard just clinging on for the paycheque. They don't know how to deal with the popularity of people like Mamdani in NY: Hakeem Jeffries still hasn't endorsed him.

No they haven't, Trumps popularity not dented at all over the government lockdown. The reason US citizens know it's democrats are blocking opening up. They dont have any political bombs to throw, because the bill was clean, no strings. Whilst Democrats want $1.5 trillion in benefits for illegal immigrants. Very much doubt that is going to wash.
