If you are talking about "the Great Depression" and it's aftermath, it was before even my time, but, I thought that was a worldwide issue.

Worse in the States.

As good an answer as answering the wrong question, or, a simple "no idea" would have been equally acceptable.

I don't know either.

I find it equally puzzling that, in General, Northern Europe pretty much became "the developed world", in the 1700s and onwards, before decline began in early 1900s, when, several other regions/countries had previously been ahead technology wise.

It is a genuine puzzle to me, but, probably of no real consequence 😂

He just wants a diversion from trouble at home and wants the oil. It’s really that blatant.
I wonder (complete guess) if part of it is also that he wants to establish himself as a "tough guy". Other leaders he admires just do as they please (eg. bomb the hell out of innocent civilians, eg invade other peaceful neighbours) and he just sits in his luxurious private club posting on Twitter. Maybe now he feels he a true member of the "I can do whatever I want (as long as I'm in no danger and it's others suffering the injuries)" club ...

This and he has a cost of living crisis he promised to solve instantly. So the promise of lots of cheap stolen oil will be just the ticket.

Most USAinans won't realise that it has to be expensive to be worth extracting, which means it is only a solution to some cost of living crisis in about a decade from now.

And that the profits from that stolen oil will be going to those with already massive wealth and those unable to afford food, housing, healthcare will see none of it.

Trickle down economics.

Is it too early to tell yet if it's working?

AIUI the USA was a secular state with no rigid power and wealth structures, and saw a wildly productive and brutal scramble for wealth and dominance, which continues today.

Thr Latin American countries started with strong ties to one church and established Spanish aristocracies which limited opportunities and social mobility.

Maybe I just made that up.

Schumer ought to think of a career in comedy if he ever retires from Senate.

Being reported that Trump is now again going on about how US "needs Greenland" - playing recording of Trump talking to press on Air Force One. So not looking hopeful that he's satisfied his thirst for playing tough guy.
