I think her being branded a criminal for what is quoted as "She got free accommodation for helping host families "around the house" It is a little bit of a stretch. It seems as though the family didn't receive clear reasoning for the violation of her visa rules.

But, im sure it serves as a lesson to others, that despite the USA being a beautiful country and a great candidate to go backpacking, It is unfortunately still full of Americans.

still full of Americans
They now vehemently defend their country, unlike many European countries

Without commenting on her treatment, most people travelling would be aware of how countries treat "working" vs "tourism". "Benefit in kind" is widely recognised as a form of income (eg our own political system, our tax system, etc.).

Completely different when she has no other income i.e. it wouldn't be taxable. I'm assuming it's a couple-of-hours a week, tops - not enough work to count as a job, or modern slavery Archers stylee.
IMO
(No doubt you will say that what matters is the US Authority's view, and round we go ... )

I read domestic travel of all sorts is booming, international outbound doing well, in bound numbers slowly rising post COVID, no crashing numbers

Fark me Andy. Even you can't be that dense. Did you actually look at the title or read the article?

This is not about tourism. This is about where Americans travel. They are travelling further and more often. Probably to get away from the utter shootshow in their own country.

Trump's impact is positive towards Americans looking to go abroad to avoid his moronic policies.
Trump's impact is negative regarding people looking to take holidays in America. People are not looking to spend money booking holidays in an unstable country with an authoritarian government hell-bent on massively increasing inflation and costs through failing to understand economics.
