One "theory" I have chanced upon, on the Internet, is that it is all about Data. ie His "Tech billionaire handlers" want to ensure the keep access to the data they have, and, if possible, extend the range of data they have. Tariffs are a means to bully/blackmail "difficult" Governments into relaxing data protection laws and/or to gain access to Government held data. Acquiring TikTok would mean acquiring yet more data.

The more data the Tech Billionaires have, they more they can control us plebs, and, even control Government.

Personally, I am not sure "they" are that clever, but........

No, you are getting confused because of the flagrant gerrymandering that goes on in the US and forms the keystone of Republican policy.
