So the story goes, when Trump met the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, Trump called him ''Mr Japan''. I'd love to have heard the reply of, ''Greetings Agent Orange'' but the Japanese are a polite race of people.

  • Det. Frank Drebin: The way I look at it, you owe me 100 dollars for that window.
  • Rocky: Us? I don't know what you're talking about.
  • Det. Frank Drebin: So how do you explain this?
  • [hands over the rock that came through the window]
  • Leo: Well, billions of years ago the Earth was a molten mass...

Excuse the deviation but remaking Police Squad is one of the stupidest ideas of 2025. And 2025 has been a bumper year for stupid.

What could possibly go wrong? Yeah, let the free market decide.

Aye, after 5200 posts it dared to stray to a related tangent. The relative merits of US and UK healthcare systems are not irrelevant so much as a cautionary tale. I'd say it has a place here, unless you think that we need another 5000 posts of insult invention?

But it's fun.
And anyhoo - Trump provides a continuous feed and it's all building up to him falling off the metaphorical cliff. There's a MAGA groundswell. Maybe he'll be strung up from a lamp post by a disillusioned insurrectionist called Giuseppe. Beyond Trump will be cynicism and a legacy of hate that seems to have become acceptable so there's thousands of miles threads in this..
Imagine the file content be so damaging he flees the country. A US president in exile.
Imagine him in court facing questions.
Imagine his lawyers advising him to step down as president and claim he's not fit for trial (how ironic given he's the healthiest president in history)
.
House Oversight Subcommittee Approves Motion To Subpoena DOJ For Epstein Files

Many GOP's voted for this. Trump is cornered. If they refuse/delay, he looks suss. As someone mentioned earlier up thread, I think there's more to come from the WSJ 'drip feed'. It makes perfect sales sense. That's Murdoch's bottom line. He's an @rsehole; a much cleverer @rsehole than Trump.

Sit back relax, i'll massage your feet while you eat popcorn ;)

I must admit I'm finding it harder to see a legalistic/procedural way to stop Trump. I hope I'm wrong, but Democrats issuing subpoenas feels like taking a water pistol to Gaza to protect Palestinians from the IDF.

It wasn't just Democrats - it was Republicans too that voted. The DOJ cannot avoid it nor kick the can down the road for too long. They avoid it their peril. That's why Mike the hypocrite Johnson (meeting with men with 'luxurious hair' in hotel rooms whilst living with a Pastor/right wing mentor when in DC and has a wife and kids) shut down the senate early for 5 weeks. It's a panic move.
It's not going to magically go away over the summer recess. They are scrabbling to find a way out in during this interim.

As I say, I hope it does work, but I think the Miller/Bannon /Project 2025 tactic welcomes the chance to escalate the constitutional crises, so the bigger the legal instrument opponents bring, the bigger the incentive to simply ignore it or to sabotage it with bad faith arguments.
