Re: US Government Vaccination Attitude
Maybe surprising aspect to the current US Government attitude to vaccination is that their recommendations for Covid Booster vaccinations this autumn are more generous and cover a significantly broader sector of population than the UK are providing.

I have to admit that I'm not overly worried about not having been offered a covid booster, but will happily accept my flu jab. My general perception is that covid is currently not at all pleasant, but it's nothing like as serious as it was initially, and the NHS is not going to be overwhelmed. (Obviously long covid is still a concern though.)

I think that the bigger issue, in public health terms for the US, is the withdrawal of vaccine mandates for children, given the already declining vaccination rates. Those terrible diseases that are still just as terrible now as they ever were - e.g. polio and measles - are going to have a field day.

The worry with Covid is not so much the accute phase but for those who go on to suffer long Covid - which can really devastate their lived for an extended period.

NHS is weird with it's vaccination regime eg Shingles (which I've had and is really horrible) but people younger than me are getting it on the NHS, people older than me are getting it on the NHS but NHS doesn't like my age group so I'm currently not eligible (and it's one I would definately get and for broader reasons than avoiding shingles).

It says something about my current faith in US institutions that I'll reserve judgement about whether the 'suspect' in custody is a stooge in the way that certain regimes quickly find convenient culprits who get paraded in front of the TV cameras.
Hence my using the word "claiming". MAGA has its martyr, it just needs to find the executioner.
I must admit if they do have the correct person, I was rather hoping he would be on the run for a little longer, if only to watch the discomfort of Kash Patel in front of the cameras.

Interesting how the Utah governor describes social media as a "cancer" linking it to an inability to process violent imagery, but was happy to sign into law, the open carry of firearms without a permit.

Also interesting how yet another high school shooting on the same day goes entirely without report. Normalised.

You wot?
March 1990 me. Gruesome indeed.
More recently para mi. Dec 2017, with my then missus we had been to see Robert Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters plus Chrissie Hynde at RAH. Cracking gig, Some barsteward passed it on, we both caught it, several days in bed unaware of time of day or night, recall thinking 'is this what dying feels like?' Wiped out the planned family Christmas, by New Year's Eve I could actually manage a glass of wine. Memories eh?

My flu vacc is week after next.

Dude's weird little tinfoil bunker needs some work.

Also, bless that Patriot for editing "terrorist". I'd have been triggered all the way to my latest alphabet rally if they hadn't done that.

And of course they ought to ban the Republican Party over the assassination of Melissa Hortman and the attempted kidnap of Nancy Pelosi, plus the attacks on the Capitol Building.
The bloke in that video is the best example of everything that is f*cked up in the US at the moment, and demonstrates what happens when you engage the mouth and not the brain.
Still, it excites the hard of thinking on both sides of the pond, including obviously our own mini-MAGAT.
