That is an issue with overpopulation of the LA area, same problem in the south east of Spain. I've never been there either, but learned that sort of thing in primary school.

Thanks. My ignorance is now slightly less complete.

I'd not want to live in an area into which water needs to be imported in enormous quantities to make human habitation possible. I realise that reservoirs & pipe networks aren't in the least 'natural', but the UK doesn't need to import water overall, even if it is in need of more investment for greater resilience.

My understanding is that nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize deadline is 31 Jan so there was no way Trùmp could even have been nominated for the most recent award (irrespective of his merits).

My impression is that the Nobel Committee are somewhat "unimpressed" (displeased) by his being given and accepting the medal (from their public statements).

So I expect Trǔmp's acceptance and pride in acceptance of the medal will put him in a much weaker position when the Committee review nominations for next year's award.

Ah, meanies.

They could at least give the lad a lollipop

As if they would nominate Trump?!

Yeah, that's what I've just been picking up on (the diversity) from my two links.

Anyway, glad we've got a geographer advising now, thanks.
It's diverse in the same way as "Europe" given it's size. That said, I once went from 16C somewhere near the Death Valley park centre to snow by the side of the road when I next needed a wee, which is diverse in a fairly short distance.

For me, the transition from temperate rainforest to alpine to desert in about 2-3 hours is more interesting. For that go to Washington State or British Columbia.

As it's in Trumplandia, I'll skip the invitation, but I get the point, thanks. My experience of huuuge countries with truly varied climate conditions is... non existent. As you might have surmised.

Not unusual; in Europe.
Nice to Isola 2000 is about a 90 minute drive.
It can be mid teens aaround Annecy in March, but snow in the ski resorts within 75 minutes drive.

Same going from the beaches in Almería to the ski station near Granada.

Sorry about the diversion, folks. Not much about Trump, apart from whatever he did with some reservoir and turning on taps way back in the mists of time.

I don’t think you are entirely wrong. A lot of 50s westerns were shot a few miles from the studios in Hollywood. A place called the Alabama Hills in Lone Pines. Very barren and desert like.
