The tendency of the US constitution towards paralysis when the different branches of government are unaligned is a known weakness. The ability of a sufficiently aggressive president to overreach has been seen before but not to anything like the current extent. But then all democracies are fragile in certain circumstances.

Shockingly, our “brilliant” NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital U.S. Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness. These are International Powers who only recognize STRENGTH, which is why the United States of America, under my leadership, is now, after only one year, respected like never before. The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY, and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired. Denmark and its European Allies have to DO THE RIGHT THING. Thank you for your attention to this matter. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

This reminds me of “Who signed the Canada deal. Its terrible.”

Ignoring the rights and wrongs of UK decisions of the islands, why would Trümp expect us to keep the islands and face the legal battles, etc. just because the US wants us to. If he thinks it's what allies should do then maybe he should reflect that he's been threatening his allies with military action. He wants allies then it's a 2-way process not a one-sided/one-way relationship.

Now there's a tricky concept to grasp.

Nope, escapes me.

You should be paying in to some scheme be his ally.
Oh, hang on...

Macron won't pay, the naughty boy. So Trump is threatening French wine with a 200% tariff.

Dow Jones set to fall 600 points if he goes ahead with tariffs.
As one commentator says: 'If you p*ss off big business, corporation and compromise hedge funds, pension funds and investors they just might start campaigning against you'.

I think you are crediting Trump with a lot more thought process than he is able to actually do.

he expects nothing. Someone fed him an idea in small words so that he would rant on it.
