I miss the Jon Sopel’s look of disgust and distain when reporting during the first term.

LBC have John Sopel, Simon Marks and Matt Frie on their roster.
They are all very experienced commentators on US politics and say it how it is.
Much better than the vanilla Beeb.

I suspect this is probably exactly how he intended it. I do agree the ambiguity is not helpful. I also don't believe that in such cases there is a need for "balance" as the BBC always likes to say. It is possible for a news outlet to make it quite clear what Trump is doing without the need to qualify it.
