Quite glad I haven't formed an opinion on the Chagos deal. It's off, apparently.

If that’s the case will we get “well done sir, right decision” or ”nah nah nah u-turn”*

Remember how unpopular Thatcher was in 1980. She didn't spend four years electioneering, but rather pushing ahead with what she wanted to do in line with her principles. She certainly wasn't trying to win over Labour voters or union members, but rather having confidence that enough people would vote again for what she was doing (and with little compromise).

If sinking obsolete battleships steaming away from conflict was in line with her principles you may have a point.

It might well have been, but either way, I don't think she was finessing her domestic policies to second guess how people would vote four years later, or whenever the election was, which is probably why she is held in such low regard still by so many.

Not a suprise he shat on UK troops who fought in Afghanistan. He shat on US troops who fought in WWII and Vietnam

Including John McCain.

I think he thinks himself as a hero because he's never paid any price for any of his many crimes, whereas the people who fight for their country and get caught or killed have paid a heavy price. Suckers and losers, in his words.
