The thing is, how many of the viewers for these are the ones the Democrats need to appeal to and how many of them are either already Democrats or not US citizens? My impression (no idea if it’s fair or not) is that the people that need to be turned are not very politically active. The same with populists everywhere they tend to feel disenfranchised and fed up with the establishment so just want easy solutions to their troubles. They’re not seeking out a wide range of views, just living off the echo chamber of their social media algorithms.

Which is a decent way of explaining the divides all over the world right now.

MAybe Trűmp or one of his puppet-masters should go back and listen to Carney's speech at Davos and it might give him a clue as to what Carney's response is likely to be.

Canada is the largest destination for US exports. Plus, my understanding is that there are several sectors where the US is somewhat dependent on imports from Canada and were Canada to cut those off or reciprocate the tariffs then Trúmp might have even more pïssed-off voters in the Mid-Terms. eg were Canada to cut power to Michigan, New York state, and Minnesota.

Last time he imposed tariffs on Canada they responded with reciprocity. But them maybe Trǔmp think he can bully them this time despite Carney's standpoint clearly explained earlier this week (and Carney would lose all international credibility if he caved after telling the rest of the world to "grow a backbone, stand-up to him")..
