Just plodding along as always.
Despite being pepper sprayed before hand, this chap continued to be aggressive towards the agents.
All I'm going to say is that, regardless of the situation, I doubt anyone would be terribly impressed at being pepper sprayed in the first place. šŸ˜†
Really doesn't explain away, why would a person bring a gun to a peaceful protest.
Which may be and appears to have perhaps been a misjudgement on the victim's part, but I thought you had the right to bear arms and all that, so it was within his rights to do so.

You do have rights to bear arms, but expect the other side to have reciprocal defences.

See Chicago chief of Police explanation re engaging in hostility towards law enforcement officers.

They will deem it as a threat to their life and will defend with deadly force is any suspicious movements or weapons are seen

BBC Verify is starting to catch up. At least now they mention he was shot about 10 times. And the fact that they've put Noem's 'claims' straight afterwards implies directly that she's lying. Let's hope the rest of the BBC reporting catches up now too.

What happened before and at the moment of the shooting (published at 16:14)

As we've posted earlier, our colleagues at BBC Verify have analysed seven videos showing the moments leading up to and around the shooting.
The footage shows an agent pushing someone over, with Pretti standing between them and the agent while filming on his phone.
The agent pepper sprays Pretti in the face. Pretti raises his hand defensively and turns away, pockets his phone, and starts to help the woman on the floor as the agent continues spraying.
Other agents rush over. They drag Pretti away and several agents wrestle him to the floor. Pretti then tries to crawl away - he’s clearly not holding a gun.
An agent in a grey jacket is seen reaching for something from Pretti’s waist. Next to him, another agent draws his gun.
The agent in the grey jacket turns away from Pretti, holding what appears to be a pistol.
Less than a second later, an agent shoots Pretti. Ten shots are heard in total.
For context, after the shooting, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem gave the following description of what happened: "An individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots."

BBC Verify could/should have just omitted the "For context" final paragraph as while they can verify that Noem said those words the words are clearly false.

There's no evidence that Pretti drew a weapon. Indeed there's plenty of evidence he did not.

It ultimately doesn't matter, the situation was extremely dangerous.

I don’t view the way the BBC reports this in the same light as you do. I want to see serious journalists taking care not to jump in too quickly apportioning blame (I remember the Gaza hospital bombing that was blamed wrongly on Israel but was due to Hamas, and how this was used by Israel to criticise the BBC).
I take the ā€œcontextā€ comment as a subtle way to highlight the spin being put out by Noem.

They are either there to peacefully protest or they are there to agitated the situation.

I say being stood in the middle of the road, blocking traffic impeding the federal agents, carrying an automatic hand gun is a person wanting confrontation.

Another protestor pushed the situation onto critical level

Found out
We and people in the US used to have the right to protest, that also means the government including ICE and other law enforcement does not have to like it, you may also obstruct them up to a certain level, he did have a right to carry the gun but crucially and Vance got that wrong too ICE officer are not free from prosecution they can be tried under a number off laws as they may only use deadly force if they are forced to. the law says forced too means if they need to defend themselves in this case that was clearly not the case, we seen that from so many video footage now, it is in fact murder. How long Trump and or US justice/ICE are gonna try and deny it does not change that fact. if they come clean provide all evidence to the court it might change but i'm pretty sure it won't as it looks and smells and sounds like murder.

I think there is enough footage out there to say ā€˜incorrectly claimed’ at this stage. I can understand being more cautious as the news broke but the reality is now unequivocal unless you’re actively attempting to cover it up or are a gullible MAGA supporting moron.
