I’m no economist but surely for tariffs to have a benefit of being protectionist they should be targeted at the industries you are looking to protect e.g if you are worried about your billionaire supporter losing market share in the EV market US automotive industry jobs you put tariffs on imports of cheap Chinese EVs. That way you don’t increase the costs of components etc. your EV car industry has to import from China.

Greenland's prime minister has asked US President Donald Trump to talk to him instead of making "random outbursts on social media", after Trump said he was sending a US hospital boat to "take care" of people on the island.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was going to send a boat filled with medical supplies, alleging "many people" on the island are sick and "not being taken care of".
