I genuinely can't see how it'll play out. They convinced themselves oh so thoroughly that it was the 'greatest nation on earth' and the the Constitution was akin to the Bible, that nothing could possibly go wrong that they didn't spot all the ways it could go wrong.

Well most people didn't (or they convinced themselves that no-one would exploit all the ways it could go wrong), meanwhile the Republicans worked out exactly how to exploit all the weaknesses.

And here we are, with a President who's actually got more power than George III did, as far as I can tell. And who's probably even more barking mad.

Talking of which, some challenging music...

It does. But I still find it extraordinary that there's not one shred of realisation or basic humanity there. There are some things you'd have thought would be universally understood and respected, even by truly wicked people: laughing at true grief, or making brazen political points when commemorating sacrifice (by both allies and enemies) would have been in that category, I'd have previously thought. Seems I was wrong.
