It’s a bit weird that he realises he is doing stuff that will lead to impeachment yet continues to do it. Maybe rather than worrying about being impeached he could stop doing the stuff that will cause it. He also seems to miss the point that despite what he might be aiming for it is highly unlikely he’ll be President in just over two years and there are likely to be a range of civil and criminal cases resurrected / brought against him.

If he is ever charged with a criminal case his lawyer will immediately claim dementia and say he is not fit for trail.

They've just made an out of court settlement in another case.

The whole thing is such nonsense. The BBC were seriously out of line. They should have apologised profusely and made sure it couldn't happen again, maybe offered a token financial settlement. Trump should have graciously accepted that apology and a few quid and been content with the fact that the BBC embarrassed themselves. He would have actually improved his standing by being sensible about it.
In that case it was BBC Studios (a commercial subsidiary) who made the payout and I believe (maybe incorrectly?) that no legal action had been started.

But I thought Trūmp's legal action was against the BBC and the "Charter" issue is being reported elsewhere eg
He miscalculated badly. As a public service corporation, the BBC operates under a royal charter that explicitly bars it from entering into out-of-court financial settlements to make litigation disappear.
(from https://www.salon.com/2026/08/18/trump-sued-the-bbc-now-jared-and-ivanka-may-pay-for-it/ - a stie I have no idea about, just from Google)

A quick Google suggests the BBC settled out of court when Lord McAlpine sued Newsnight for libel - which was 6 years before BBC Studios was formed. They've also settled employment claims. The BBC can't offer Trump a settlement that is anything near the ridiculous amount he wants so they have no choice other than to fight it. I don't think the charter issue is that relevant.

It's a bit late for that isn't it?

Mainstream Democrats are just so lost. If they do win the midterms, it'll be despite lily-livered crap like this.

As someone else pointed out on Bluesky, if you're a Democrat leader trying to make deals with Kushner but are not even willing to meet Mamdani (let alone recognise his achievements), you've got a serious problem in the Democrat leadership.

I'm breaking my read-only habit for Jamelle Bouie - this is a very persuasive piece about the Jeffries-Kushner meeting that helps me get my head round insane US politics. I think the reason it doesn't feel like wasted time is that not only has he constructed a coherent argument before turning the camera on, the way he articulates it to the camera is helpful. He assumes an intelligence on the part of the viewer. I like his angle of trying to get the most positive take on the meeting and 'working across the aisle'.

Things are heating up over the pond.
"Canada’s trade war with the US just got personal, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford telling Trump he can “kiss my ass” as Ottawa prepares retaliatory tariffs and Trump threatens to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.” "

Has there ever been a more pathetic world leader?

No. At least they had a little dignity about Reagan as Alzheimer's took its toll on him.

I genuinely don't think that the US as a whole realise quite what a laughing stock Trump is making of the US, and how allowing his senility to dictate all policies are going to reduce the US to a very lonely nation.

There are absolutely no guard rails, none at all. They should bin the constitution and start again.
