Indeed, and people wonder why newspapers are going the way of the Dodo.

Did you miss the post where the term was used, despite me posting it again?

Perhaps you would also care to explain what 'ditched' means?

Although we all know, it means restricting the public use of the song, aka censoring its public use.

I think you’re inferring a meaning that isn’t there.

Some guy on a forum, even Fabbers, can’t prohibit a song being sung or censor its content. I read the opinion that it should be ditched as suggesting another version be used in preference.

You are at liberty to disagree and continue to sing the original words but you can’t say you have been restricted in any way from singing it (unless you’re giving Fabbers’ voice the power of legislation).

Land of Hope and Glory doesn't feature a great deal in my world, about the only example that springs immediately to mind is the Last Night of the Proms.

To have any meaning, to say it should be ditched must refer to occasions when it is sung in public.

Fine, if that's what you want, but let's not pretend such a measure is anything other than a form of censorship.

Does ditched have the singular meaning you want it to have?
I don’t believe it does and, in any case, you would still be free to sing whatever words you wanted, wouldn’t you?

Several posters on here are keen to tell me I'm wrong in my interpretation of 'ditched' in this context, but none seem able to tell me what it does mean.

I agree that post ditching an individual could still sing it, but to have any meaning, ditching must have some public impact.

If the song is ditched, I cannot see how it can still be sung as it currently is at events such as the Last Night of the Proms.

Yes, stop pretending.

The wait continues for the 'correct' definition of 'ditched'.

You, I and everyone else knows this is an irrelevant point.
Look it up in the dictionary if you are that concerned but be minded you cannot ascribe your own meaning to other people's words.

Ditched is one of those words that can mean whatever the context, or the interpretation of the user/reader, wants it to. Literally I suppose it means thrown into a ditch, although I doubt that is what FF meant....or did he?

If it was up to me I would say that any songs by the Spice Girls should be ditched, even though they are part of our "heritage", but that is a matter of taste rather than censorship.

You have no alternative answer, do you?

Simply saying to me 'you're wrong' is not sufficient, you need to add the word 'because' and a few more words of explanation.

Very easy to do - if you have a genuine point to make.

But you haven't, so readers will have to draw their own conclusions.

I have just explained why you are wrong in just sticking to one meaning of a word that suits your particular obsession/blinkered point of view. HTH.
