We know a song about that, don’t we children?
One man/woman/non-genderspecific homo sapiens went to mow a meadow….

Don't forget the verse where she tried to mow too many brambles in one go, and the drive belts started to smoke..

Changing the lyrics to the National Anthem is progress?

Were you concerned about it 40 yrs ago?
40 years ago I was 5, so no, I believe Lego was my focus but it could have been my Subbuteo stage.

Anyway, I believe the discussion was about your proposal that Land of Hope and. Glory being a good idea for an English national anthem, not changing the UK national anthem which in my view is also pretty terrible. Although you state you don’t want change, but were proposing to have a pretty big change in creating an English national anthem, I and others thought that we could take advantage of the change and remove the ‘dodgy’ lyrics, after all I doubt that any anthem created since the second world has lyrics that include hopes of expansionism and crushing enemies. All of this was of course totally off topic as the thread was meant to discuss ‘enforced Britishness’ not ‘nostalgic Englishness’.

There have been many rewrites of the UK’s national anthem over the centuries.

In 1946, King George VI was concerned enough to order the lyrics changed so that “the belligerent imperious second stanza of 'God Save the King' to be rewritten to bring it more into the spirit of the brotherhood of nations."

Bloody progressives, eh?

Fabbers said Land of Hope and Glory should be 'ditched'.

Brompton said I Though to Thee My Country needs 'new words'.

Both those actions deny the rest of us access to the original version in one way or another.

That is the definition of censorship.

It's the link between those songs and our supposed superiority that needs to be ditched. I doubt you will be denied the chance to listen to them. The taliban are not watching you.

Most people don't care what the words mean, few know past the first line, I've just had enough of people trying to change stuff I see as my heritage.
When did all this start I wonder?

Your 'HERITAGE' is nothing but an accident of birth. Would you blindly support any ideology you were born into?

But you are ok with supporting the campaigns around the removal of various statues and symbols by people of a certain heritage? Why on earth are they bothered, they are only of that heritage by an accident of birth surely, why are they blindly supporting those campaigns?

I see you couldn't defend your assertion there.

Again. Where did Fabbers say that again.? i can't see it. As a man of words that you are please point it out.

Rather than being purposefully obtuse, tell us all what 'ditched' means in this context.

You liked the post, so you must know what was meant by it.
