Seems that The Telegraph hasn't quite yet grasped what Brexit meant, and certainly haven't got over it yet. Are they crying over spilt milk?

Now look what you've done. I checked the article and ended up reading the comments on it. I need a drink.

The ironic thing is that as a French second home owner, I'm fully aware what the consequences are. I bear no grudge against the EU for putting the UK in the same category as the rest of the world... it's not their fault that the UK made the choices it did.

I'm not sure what the Telegraph's point is... are they angry that the rules agreed to on Brexit are being applied, or that people with second homes are ignorant of the consequences of Brexit?

Or is it - hear me out here - that they just want to keep people hating the EU because, well, because... erm, foreigners?

I remember soon after Brecit how Roger Daltry (The Who) having campaigned for Brexit then got upset when musicians no longer had Freedom of Movement- like he expected them to be a special case and everybody else constrained.

Consequences are only supposed to apply to foreigners, and British citizens are not foreigners, they're expats. HTH.

I think there were many examples like this. As per Brian's posting above about the Telegraph, the sense of exceptionalism on display meant that a lot of people really thought we could just walk away and then subsequently do whatever we chose with no consequence or pushback from the EU.

Maybe not by Boris but going by the polls there are still plenty who believe in unicorns.

Yeah, but they are slightly different unicorns, so they are bound to fix the problems.

Seriously, we're up shït creek because people can't accept they've made shït choices, and their only way of not admitting it is to make even shïtter choices. It's like realising you can't walk like the average person because you amputated the lower left leg needlessly, and deciding the solution is to amputate the lower right leg too. (I know this analogy will be particularly appreciated by Cake Stop veterans.)
