We now know the government's response. First of all they'll allow agency 'blacklegs' to be recruited to do striker's jobs. Not clear how that works with skilled people like train drivers.

Secondly the f*cking idiot Grant Shapps wants to prolong the disruption by preventing those who have been on strike from doing the overtime that's needed to keep the show on the road. He admits that will lead to the situation where services are restricted as we've seen in Scotland.

We have a Conservative Minister, a Conservative Minister, trying to micro-manage something that is not even a state industry.

"Agency workers could be brought in to break strikes under a "very fast" legal change being prepared by the Government in the face of a summer of chaos fuelled by "Marxist" barons, the Transport Secretary said.
Marxist lol.The fecking hypocrisy of them when they "pretended" they were against P and O !

Did you hear the interview with RMT chap on LBC yesterday? He suggested that all public sector workers should strike this summer so they are all paid a minimum of £45,000 per year

No, Steve Hedley.

He suggested that every worker in the Uk should go on strike for £45k minimum wages. When asked what would happen to companies who were really small businesses and may not be able to afford £45k to their employees he said that some people had become very rich during Covid. Not accepting for a moment that some tiny cafe owners had become very poor!

The guy was a muppet.

Yup - idiot that doesn't think it through
For example - great that junior nurses and teachers get a pay rise
In reality even the MOST expierienced classroom teacher would get a pay rise -
so - presumably they would have to maintain a pay difference between a teaching assistant and a teacher - so the TA gets £45,000 and the new teacher gets - more
so the experienced teacher gets way more
but what about a cleaner - do they get the same as a trained and experience TA
and does a kitchen assistant get the same as the cook?

it is just unthinking stuff - or even worse stuff, just to get headlines

Fifteen quid a hour minimum wage and what ? Inflation is at 11% or 15% ? So 11% min seems a fair pay rise.

So 11% min seems a fair pay rise.

If inflation is 11% then a wage rise equal to this isn't strictly speaking a pay increase at all.

Interesting. Daughter No2 is a Teacher, currently on just over £50k, so, that will presumably be an increase to £75k+ to keep the differential. I wonder what they will increase the State Pension to? I may be tempted to vote for him.
