I concur. I had a realisation as a teenager that unless you do something truly memorable, like those mentioned above, you will be totally forgotten about within 100 years of death, and probably more like 20-30. Even less if you don't have children. It was a truly liberating realisation not having to worry about a legacy.

Wasn't worrying about being remembered the motivation behind John Lennon's murder?

(I can remember the name of the killer, so maybe it worked, perhaps AndyCXR would call that a success)

What's so important about being remembered?

I'd rather have a good time and do a little good while I'm passing through.

I won’t care about being remembered when I’m dead. I won’t be around to enjoy people remembering me anyway.

My sentiments exactly. I did briefly concern myself about if it would be possible to say enough nice things about me to fill the time allotted at the funeral, but, then decided:

A) I will dead, so, who cares

B) I don’t really want a funeral

Even through family and children, who can remember even the names of their great grandparents? I've never even been told any. Never even met two of my grandparents and no idea of their christian names.

Why would anybody even want to be remembered? Arrogance?

For me, try and leave things in a better state than they'd have been in without my having had my time.

It doesn't even have to be that memorable.
Description. This is the largest and one of the best preserved of the spiders from Montsech, with long, outstretched legs 1. The description is based on specimen LC 1753 AP (PI. 3; text-fig. 5), which is better preserved (though slightly smaller) than LC 1754 AP (PI. 4, figs. 2 and 4; text-fig. 6); the latter is referred to for confirmation of details. Both specimens are mature males. The carapace is slightly wider (2'83 mm) than long (2'65 mm), and is widest at about midlength. The carapace outline is subcircular, but may be somewhat produced anteriorly where the edge is not preserved. The TEXT-FIG. 5. Macryphantes cowdeni gen. et sp. nov., holotype, LC 1753 AP B. Explanatory drawing for PI. 3, fig. 1. See Terminology for explanation of abbreviations. EXPLANATION OF PLATE 3 Figs. 1 and 2. Macryphantes cowdeni gen. et sp. nov., holotype; Lithographic Limestone, Lower Cretaceous; Sierra de Montsech, Lerida Province, Spain; under ethanol. 1, LC 1753 AP B, lower slab, x 7; see text-fig. 5 for explanation. 2,
it's Macryphantes Cowdeni as the chap who named it was friends with my dad and named it after him when he learned of his death.

It's only a small cretaceous spider but...

In 100 years, no one will ever know you existed.

There are so few people who leave a mark that is remembered for generations.

Children are your only lasting legacy.

In a round about way, I think you should contemplate your post above.

Since I joined this forum a few months ago, it has been littered with your recycled "X" posts and attention seeking rhetoric, mainly containing verifiable untruths, all of them sympathetic to the right wing and the far right wing and, just a few posts above here you have confirmed (with a big fat Thumbs up "YEP!") your support for "a sex offending convicted fraudster" who, in time will, I am sure, be remembered as a vacuous, narcissistic, venal, fascist puppet of a neo-nazi political project.

This will be "remembered" by the internet whether you like it or not and one day someone you do not know or, worse still, someone you do, perhaps a child or grand child, will come across this.

In all seriousness, I would like to ask you if you think you will be proud of how you will be remembered? Would you consider yourself to be on the right side of history?

Now, you're obviously going to try to rest easy in the knowledge that you are anonymous on here and, to a degree you are, but I am pretty sure that you will cringe in extreme embarrassment in years to come when you look at this stuff.

Everyone on here knows you're only seeking attention and I honestly think that you don't really have a political position or interest at all, you could well be on a Trump forum espousing the merits of Sadiq Khan when you're not on here. You're the child who has to have the last word, the person that gets a kick out of believing you've wound someone up. There's probably somewhere or someone you can go to for help - please seek them out.

I would urge you to have a look at the hundreds of things that you have put on here and consider how "history" will see you. Will that really be worth you having the last word in every discussion?

My wife recently asked me where I wanted my wake to be held.
My response was - Don’t care as I won’t be there.

Banning books. I forgot that.
So you're ok with the Trump administration encouraging the banning of books in schools and libraries?
And the persecution of political and judicial opponents including the very real threat to incarcerate them.
And the expulsion of protesters to camps and prisons in countries run by murderous dictators.
And pressure put on media outlets to cancel or sack anyone who speaks out against or criticise Trump.
I could go on...
You OK with all of that?

Yep, Charles J Guiteau believed that by killing Garfield he would secure his place in history. It's a thread used by Stephen Sondheim's "Assassins" - that all of these presidential assassins successful or otherwise wanted to be famous or secure a place in history.

I really don't care for 'legacy.' I'm enjoying life and doing my best with the 6-8yo kids I teach. That does me nicely.

It still doesn't answer my question as to why you think this -

I see you are fine with throwing your support behind an actual sex offending convicted fraudster (fact, not name calling) and that's your right in a democracy.
But as many other posters have pointed out the Trump administration is attempting to stop Americans exercising their free speech rights starting with banning certain media outlets from press conferences to proscribing protest movements as "terrorists", and everything in between. Are you fine with this?

And this -

Is acceptable?

As I've mentioned a few times before, it's attention seeking because he must have a rather sad and lonely existence so posting these X links seems to be the only way he can feel worthy and he gets a reaction every time.
