Footie mag When Saturday Comes took a hefty dent in its revenue and banned all betting adverts some years ago. Good on em.

I thought football managers and players were not allowed to promote gambling companies, so I was surprised to see Jose Mourinho promoting Paddy Power.

My inquiries revealed football managers and players are not allowed to promote football betting, but Mourinho was only promoting Paddy Power's casino/bingo games - in adverts shown at half time during live football games.

So he's in full compliance with the regulations, which is a relief, and no doubt he needs the money.

I am in favour of a ban in advertising, it will not be banning betting itself, just the advertising. However, in general I do believe that more needs to be done to support problem gamblers and also to prevent gambling becoming a problem. It seems pretty ridiculous for gambling companies to throw some loose change to an organisation and have a 'gambling aware' statement in the same time they are enticing people to bet more and more.

Talk about misleading articles.

The first line of that article says:

Bolton Wanderers Football Club has said it will no longer provide facilities for online betting at its stadium.

My emphasis added...As i first read that article, I thought it sounds a weasely way of getting publicity as what facilities for online betting do clubs provide.

However when you read the rest of the article, it is clear Bolton have gone far beyond this:
"This means we will not provide match day betting kiosks or enter into any new agreements with gambling companies."

Bolton are no longer providing any facilities, not just online facilities.

How is the article misleading? It takes about 30 seconds to read and understand the whole thing.

The reason the word 'online' is in the intro is because Bolton are continuing to run their traditional paper lottery.

Thus saying they will no longer provide facilities for 'betting' would be misleading.

Ladbrokes are doing their bit to stop gambling.
They just gave me a 5 year ban. I am £40 up so guess I am too high a risk. I am also banned from their shops and full pyramid, which apart from Coral, includes loads of sites I have never heard of.
I have never been into one of their shops so no change there.
