15 bags of dead pheasants have been dumped in the Dyfi River near Machynlleth, with Dyfed Powys Police confirming they are investigating.
The first 9 were reported on 14/2/2023, with a further 6 bags reported later.

This rather gives the lie to Lord bullshitter Botham's claim that no pheasant carcases are wasted after they're blasted with shotguns.
By the way, his son, Liam Botham, was declared bankrupt after failing to pay £50,000 owed to a supplier of pheasant chicks for tame birds to be released and shot on his two shooting estates. Daily Mail link; other news sources are available.

A red kite was shot at about 11:15 on Monday on the Lochindorb Estate in Grantown-on-Spey.

Community police inspector Craig Johnstone said: "The red kite is a protected species and under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it is illegal to kill them.

"I am asking anyone in the local community who may be able to help with our inquiries to come forward. If you were walking in the area on Monday then please let us know if you saw anything.

"In particular, if you saw quad bikes in the area or off-road vehicles, then get in touch as even the smallest bit of information could assist with our investigation."

Of course, the Lochindorb estate is a driven grouse shooting business. This is from 2014, when it last changed hands, AFAIK.
"
Lochindorb Estate - a fantastic and very productive grouse moor, near Grantown- on- Spey. Extending to just over 9,000 acres, Lochindorb has produced consistently good bags, with a five year average of 916 brace, and around 1200 brace shot this season, with 165 brace on the best day. The estate includes a traditional nine bedroom lodge in a magical, lochside setting, three cottages, a number of trout lochs, together with some enjoyable rough shooting."

Ignorant f*cking gamekeepers seem totally unaware that Red Kites are almost exclusively carrion eaters and have never been known to kill Red Grouse, but since it has a hooked beak they consider it needs shooting on sight, unless they get a chance to poison or trap it. Will there be enough evidence to convict someone of this crime? What do you think?

Yet another Red Kite shot on a grouse moor, this time in Edmundbyers, County Durham on 17/3/2023.

Driven grouse shooting has to end; we need these bastards* to see some serious jail time.

*Not just the f*cking ignorant keepers, but vicarious responsibility prosecutions of those who instruct them.

Maintained grouse shoots are environmentally destructive monoculture for ecosystems too.

Agree, I'm just as (if not more) p*ssed off with the owners of the shoots , as with the game keepers themselves .

I have to bite my tongue if I come across them whilst a-wandering the heather..

It's illegal to release extinct native animals such as beavers whilst every year the shooting industry is free to release non-native pheasants equivalent in weight to the entire wild bird population.

Cotswold Hunt has been burying live foxes in sacks, then digging them up and releasing them in front of hunts.

Pretty sick really. Plus hunting is illegal. Obviously nothing will be done about this because the tendrils of the social elite reach deep into the police and criminal justice system.

A former local newspaper editor of my acquaintance tells of attending a meeting of police & local dignitaries when hunting was first made illegal. Police chief said they had zero resources for dealing with illegal hunting, so nothing would change.

Said acquaintance is a member of a local shoot. They were complaining about the increased cost of buying pheasant chicks from France, which they do annually, to be shot the following year.

From that BBC page:
Mark Moir KC, defending, said: "He should have been shooting pigeons and crows that day. Feral pigeons are a problem on the estate.
However, the sparrowhawk flew over and there was a rush of blood. He says it was a stupid thing to do.
"
Yes, of course it is absolutely normal practice to use a decoy owl on a fence post to attract feral pigeons, isn't it?
Rush of blood? The fecker was trying, and succeeding, to attract raptors to the owl so he could shoot them. Having shot, wounded and then wrung its neck, he returned to his hiding place in the bushes to await another raptor to kill.

Unattributed: "The land where the sparrowhawk was killed is used for pheasant and partridge shoots and managed by a tenant on the Moy Estate.".
Scottish Land and Estates' Dee Ward said: "In this case, the illegal persecution of a sparrowhawk near pheasant and partridge release pens is particularly disappointing..."

The RSPB's press release makes it absolutely clear that the offence took place on a grouse moor. The video* confirms this.
So why, given the inevitability of a successful conviction, are these feckers lying about "pheasant and partridge"?
The Scottish government, in response to the Werrity Report, are considering stricter (hah!) regulation of grouse moor management, and the despicable bastards who make money from misery are desperate to avoid this, hence the deflection.
Here's an OS map of Tom Na Slaite. Does it say "Pheasant Butts"? No, it says "Grouse Butts".
