His appointment should be subject to a referendum.

SO - the man who led us through Austerity is back in the cabinet

and the man who forced a referendum in order to shut the Brexit wing of his party - then led a campaign so badly he lost it
Then gave up and ran off to his shepherd's hut

Is back as a ringing endorsement for his old policies

Who came up with this idea - Sunak or Starmer????

Labour HQ must be dancing on the tables!!

How will this work in practice, as Cameron is not a sitting MP. Can he speak in the commons?

Looks possibly like Sunak is trying to get rid of the right wing pro-bexit people from the front bench

probablyu so he can actually do things without tip-toeing around them and their feelings all the time

and, of course, once he completes huis purge he doesn't have to worry about them screwing him up on the Politics shows every week

I presume he feels that he can give Cameron the FO and just leave him to it - not too likely to come back and bite him

In the meantime Cleverly has the HO - which is a bag of worms and a total dog's dinner and is constantly biting him - so Sunak needs to be more in control of it
Cameron is probably only in it for the peerage and will bugger off after the election so would be difficult to bully - hence the FO where he probably won;t do anything stupid
Cleverly needs to be in Sunak's good books if he wants to be in the cabinet after the next election - or more likely shadow cabinet - and needs to stay in the limelight if he wants to be the next leader - hence he is more controllable and is more likely to work WITH Sunak rather than constantly working for himself
(note - "more likely" - not "will")

anyway - still suggests there is not other person available that he can trust
and Cameron is just NOT a good look
and is a gift to Labour

Alternatively, Sunak will call an election soon and this is just a caretaking cabinet, preparing the poison chalice for Starmer.

Is it? Think you counting the money before the price has been won, i think the strategy is very simple, Cameron can speak/attract the same audience as Starmer with last mentioned being under fire by his own party for not being left enough they make it a bit easyer.

True - in as much as the prize is still up there until the election

but they can show his appointment as confirmation of Sunak wanting more austerity
and the fact that he legged it after loosing the referendum
and Brexit was - to some extent - his fault
and the lobbying scandal that is still hanging over his head

but he was still a more centrist person than a lot of the other contenders

it does give Labour a target rich environment to talk about
but Cameron does have a solid, reliable and professional reputation

and a very upper class and Etonian reputation as well

it is an interesting twist
