I was not long ago thinking that our perspectives are blurred as we look at the ME in the context of western derived borders. I'm not surprised that Israel is looking at it as a religious war. Disappointed that the US is, but only slightly surprised if you pause to think about it.

There is a campaign photo of Hannah Spencer on the Greens thread which has been proven as a campaign photo taken weeks ago. It is doing the social media rounds with far right bulls******* trying to claim it was taken after Khomeini's death and is her and two Muslim chaps observing a minutes silence for him. The people spreading it know what they are doing but the my guess is the people on the receiving end will be ignorant of the facts. What alarms me is the basic lack of fact checking by people. I can only assume if you fail to do so it is because you don't actually want the facts, just a version of your own 'truth'

Regime "change" is contingent on there being a regime in waiting or an official democratic opposition.

As we're nearing Armageddon and the 'End Times' we should be on the look out for the Second Coming. This raises the question: how will we know? The time may well be ripe for all sorts of people to claim that they are Jesus. Watch out for that. Alternatively, the time may also be ripe for people to say to individuals, 'We think you are Jesus', like a kind of hailing or unmasking. In fact, I may be Jesus. But I've been keeping quiet about it up until now. I'm going off now to check in the books to see whether I do the Rapture as well as all of you. Or do I stay behind and clean up after you? I'll check.

There isn't.

There is an internal democratic opposition, with people like Narges Mohammadi and others. They align with classical left of center intellectual traditions, and the supporters of Pahlavi, hate that opposition as much as they hate the islamic republic.
