WASHINGTON, March 13 (Reuters) - A complex tug-of-war inside the White House is driving U.S. President Donald Trump's shifting public statements on the course of the Iran war, as aides debate when and how to declare victory even as the conflict spreads across the Middle East.
Some officials and advisers are warning Trump that surging gasoline prices could exact a political cost from the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, while some others are pressing him to maintain the offensive against the Islamic Republic, according to interviews with a Trump adviser and others close to the deliberations.

BBC News this evening, USA and Israel claiming to have hit 15,000 targets, they didn’t say if they were the intended targets. Also claiming that Iranian Navy and Military complexly destroyed. So, Straits of Hormuz should open soon. Do we believe this?

No, because there is this dry solid thing called "Iran" right next to the watery bit, from which the survivors can still throw stones (or launch Russian made drones).

Israel have estimated 7000 Iranian military personnel killed. There are around 600,000 serving military plus around the same number of trained reserves/militia.

Given the size and terrain of Iran there's a long way to go before it is possible to say they have been defeated, but of course that won't stop Trump saying it.

No.
I'll repeat this, the US military intelligence last week were planning for until September at the earliest.

You seem to be labouring under the idea that I believe Hegseth's crap, I don't. This mess will not be "over" in my lifetime, IMHO.

I don't believe that at all. You asked the question, I answered. 🤔

OK, I obviously needed a smiley emoji to indicate sarcasm, too late to edit it now 😊

It’s been ongoing for 2000 years, so will never be over.

Not disputing your view, and, I know in "recent" times, "the West" (including the UK) have screwed things up, in the region, but, ancient history is not my strong point, has the Middle-East (as we now call it) ever been a stable area?
