Not disputing your view, and, I know in "recent" times, "the West" (including the UK) have screwed things up, in the region, but, ancient history is not my strong point, has the Middle-East (as we now call it) ever been a stable area?

It wasn't any more or less stable than Europe, it had good times and bad times, like in Europe. The 2000 years of conflict thing is a canard created in the last century to justify Israel's violence.

Shouldn't that say "allegedly born " ? 😂
I don't think there is a risk of libel.

it’s now reminding me of Comical Ali from the 2nd Iraq war.

I don’t think there is any dispute that Jesus existed.
His status as the son of god harder to prove.

I thought that the most likely historical interpretation was more along the lines that "Jesus" is a label for something more like a religious movement, than one person.

Now that the war excursion is "finished" I dare say that these up to 5000 marines are just going to help rebuild the damage.

We won't put boots on the ground. Except Marines maybe. If we need to.

First we need to get the ship throught the Straight if Hormuz without being blown up by the mines that Iran can't lay because they were hit the hardest in history and totally obliterated.

Iran has now got to make a decision.

Be financially crippled by Trump taking control of Iran's main oil distribution point or go all in and attack others in the region (which isn't working for damage and regional friendship)

Other regional nations will be glad to see the back of a country's leadership that attacks them.

Re: Strait of Hormuz

My impression is US is failing to see the issue. They might start escorting tanker/cargo vessels but how much will that cost and how long will it go on for. Iran can just sit and wait and US navy does escort duty before Trûmp moves it on for Greenland maybe for eg 1 month after which Iran closes the Strait again. US returns to do more escort duties Iran waits and ...
...
...,at some point US will stop using its expensive navy to escort vessels and Iran can just close the Strait again. It doesn't take much to make drones and they don't need many. They hold all the cards.

It's not a solution, it's just papering over a few cracks as the sinkhole grows.

nb ships can still get insurance to pass through the Strait, it is available, just between 4 and 6 times that normal premiums which makes it prohibitively expensive for vessel operators.

What is even more galling for the US is that the Straits are not closed. Iran is allowing certain ships clear passage and there is nothing the US can do about it unless they want to bring China to the fore.
