"We" white Anglo Saxon christians may well have been. Everyone else not so much.
Useless debate as the OP admitted. Maybe Donnie wants to find out?

I would lump the Scandinavians in with white Anglos.
I am not sure that the Danes or Norwegians would agree with the first part of your assessment.

Re: UK Hydrocarbons And Opposition Politicians
New North Sea drilling would barely reduce UK gas imports at all, data shows
Exclusive: research finds Jackdaw field would provide only about 2% of current demand, and Rosebank only 1%

Opening major new fields in the North Sea would make almost no difference to the UK’s reliance on gas imports, research has shown.

The Jackdaw field, one of the largest unexploited gasfields in the North Sea, would displace only 2% of the UK’s current imports of gas, which would leave the UK still almost entirely dependent on supplies from Norway and a few other sources.

The Rosebank field, also in Scottish waters but mainly containing oil, would displace only about 1% of the UK’s gas imports.
More evidence opposition politicians pushing "we should drill our own" are pursuing an ideological and lobbied agenda rather than having any interest in addressing the Cost of Living impacts for everybody.

Well I wish they’d hurry up and install a new puppet regime as they’re failing badly and it’s taking money out of all our pockets. Iran making more money than before now.

The usual advice on "whys and wherefores" is to follow the money.
Triply so with Donnie.

That feels pretty standard around here. It had come down to around 135p just before Trump’s folly. It was the cheapest I could remember for quite a while but it’s now 185p or more pretty much everywhere. I’ve seen the Texaco near me change twice in a day, really not sure how they can justify that.
