Help for new members

As a New Member (across the street I've made it as far as Well-Known, which may be stretching it), I'm in the market for a handy references work. Here's an example of why, from the thread I started about Trump:

Where's Milzy when you need him.

You see, that doesn't mean anything to me. While I may be able to figure out some things using context or by diving into the stacks, or even by just asking Ian in this case, it would help if there was an overview of personalities, quirks, allegiances, longstanding feuds, etc. Basically a who's who, and what's what. If you're a grizzled veteran, perhaps you'd be willing to contribute your knowledge, so that fresh recruits may better appreciate otherwise obscure references.

This one is unmoderated, but generally it's cool.

I’ve seen some stuff on minds social media and from a work mate crazy Daz. It’s that bad I’m not even going to post about it. Even I’m totally perplexed. It’s scary he actually believes it, and there’s millions out there like him.
Conspiracies can be fun & from time to time come out as truth but I won’t go down every single rabbit hole that pops up. Even I have to draw the line somewhere.

Milzy does post some bollocks sometimes but I can't bring myself to dislike any of it cos he flogged me some parts once and seemed like a proper sound bloke.

We are all part of an evolving learning family exchanging ideas & wisdom but I must admit the crazy stuff is more entertaining than serious political talk. Also I enjoy talking about cycling too.

As it happens, I did a search on Milzy, but didn't deduce he is a conspiracy theorist. Admittedly my search didn't cover his entire writings, and was hampered by the fact that I didn't also search "conspiracy theorist". It's good Milzy (sorry to talk about you as if you aren't here, @Milzy) turned up too, for his right of reply.

Can't say that I've ever been on a forum where I wanted to find out who's who before. I know there's an intro page on the mothership, but most (all?) people here have come from there anyway.

As for your thread, I wasn't asking for an apology. Just pointing out that there's a long running thread already on the subject which ended up pretty much exactly where yours has started so...

Of course TC's thread did start with an apology, right there in the title. It's almost as if she knew what direction it would take.

FWIW I think sex and gender is a very interesting and nuanced topic but almost impossible to discuss online in a sensible and respectful fashion. Given the style and content of the OPs posts so far, I don't think there's any point in trying to meaningfully engage them on the subject 🤷‍♂️
