It belatedly strikes me that most NACAns will have been resident on the main site quite a while before arriving here, and therefore be reasonably knowledgeable about the other members. One exception to this was... Mein Tool, who checked in less than a week after registering on CC proper early in 2023, with just over a dozen posts under his belt (lurking time of course unknown). In short order he took up residence in theclaud's apologetic gender thread, later accusing AuroraSaab of scaring people off; a hilarious charge, as anybody familiar with his posting history will know that his MO is to constantly insult and belittle his opponents (something he has in common with moNkers), whilst Aurora almost invariably remains cool under the collar.
I, on the other hand, wasn't granted admittance to these hallowed grounds until having proved myself worthy after a few months on the mothership. Over the course of almost two hundred posts I did nothing ban-worthy, other than having been previously banned; also for no good reason.
As theclaud once put it,
Not for anything to do with trans issues or for any identifiable offence against another member, but for Ludic Tendencies Unacceptable to the Management. They do not like anything too Meta...
I was also banned from Cycling UK, where one of the mods didn't take kindly to my gender critical / sex realist opinions. That is where Mein Tool and I first met (at least with him using Multitool as a username), though technically I was already gone when he arrived onthread to bravely lay into me. Btw, I call him Mein Tool because of his long record of
Meinsplaining; he loves calling people Nazis and Nazi-adjacent.
To complete the hat trick I was banned from Yet Another Cycling Forum. Though I was never provided an explanation, my guess is my mere presence finally proved too much for some of the more influential members.
One of the reasons I take such a keen interest in "trans" topics is because it really brings out the censors. Twitter before it became X was notorious for banning people, mostly women, for pointing out obvious facts about our species.
It's pretty surreal for me to be posting here after studying it from afar for so long. Gosh, I'm finally properly rubbing shoulders with Rusty, and bobzmyunkle, and
@Unkraut (though not so much lately), and matticus, and winjim, and everyone else who has hung in there. Even though we disagree on matters gender related, I miss
@theclaud, who probably has the right idea by disengaging.
Speaking of winjim, the recipient of numerous of my compliments and brickbats over the years, and the ship's doctor
in my epic space opera, nice to finally say cheers in person:
To be fair, there seems to be a deal more wit and perspicacity on display even in the writings of a man bouncing thoughts around inside his own head than there is over here at the moment.
One of the reasons NACA is "viewed with trepidation and/or disdain," Andy, is precisely because of people like Mein Tool, who leak venom like a sieve. Faux bonhomie isn't an attraction for everyone.
The only real draw to this place is the freedom from babysitters, for which I genuinely thank Shaun, though I'm aware his main reason for setting it up is to sequester the troublesome element. I have no idea how long I'll be sticking around, but even if The Powers That Be were to stop in and give me yet another heave-ho, it's nice to finally cross it off my bucket list.
Let's end this post with a selection of some of that bad music I love so much:
