I find it helpful having my views and beliefs challenged, Allows one to develop views as more information is presented. "Changing one's views" is very binary and I think for most things in life it's a continuum and everybodies position on each continuum is contunially moving based of inputs. At worst at least one gets to appreciat the reasons behing why others hold their views and the challenges they face.

If only more people had that attitude. Seems to me that old saying of 'diversity in everything except for opinions' applies to many on here.

Sane people by definition believe in, and can understand, objective truth
Sounds fairly straightforward. So if we just had an arbiter of objective truth, maybe one person thread?...

I don't think anyone on here has an issue with diversity of opinion. You and I come from completely different viewpoints on a fair few issues, but I respect your opinions. Personally I am talking about posting stuff that is clearly untrue.

If you say Kemi Badenoch is a good leader and I say she is terrible that is two different opinions, both valid. However, if I start saying Kemi Badenoch is a plant by some shady facist right wing cabal, designed to wreck the Tory party and have them taken over by Reform, that would be insane and have no basis in truth whatsoever. There is a huge difference between opinion and truth.

I don't disagree with you on that and I respect where you are coming from in your posts. Part of it is attitude - if someone have a go at debating the issue, then they'll generally get the same in return. And a bit of piss taking is part of it. But if they go in with an attitude, name calling etc, just because of a different viewpoint then they'll get it back with a bit of interest.

No.

The site is now just spammed and trolled by Poundshop actual fascists. Just endless mindless shite of utter mindless morons, occasionally interspersed by decent people who are posting less and less.

I'm not engaging further.

I've logged back in just to like this message.

I really stopped engaging when a certain member used info on Personal Issues as a way to have a go at me, despite being against forum rules. Unsurprisingly, the mods and Shaun don't give a flying f*ck.

I'm even engaging less on the mother ship.

I think I will be leaving this forum altogether as, IMO, there's nothing for me to engage with.

Be safe @monkers

That section was started to allow those posting a place to air their "fears", problems and anything else to the members on there.
From the start it's been heavily guarded by the majority of posters. Some, however can't, or don't seem able to remember that simple fact. Taking their posting styles into there, with little care for anything other than "making a point".

Sadly an increasing number of people see it as just another part of the forum. I think I remember the post you mentioned, and it was called out by others at the time.
Folk just need to read the first thread in that section before tapping away a reply, and long before they hit post reply.

Hope you're okay from here on though.

They'd eventually get bored, especially if everybody put them on ignore so their bile weren't even being read. And the grown-ups could at least have vaguely civil/logical debates without dancing to the tunes of the trolls. It's not dissimilar to how Farage has got where he is.... troll, troll, troll, and then everyone ends up talking about just the divisive issues that Farage wants in the spotlight.

😂

I'm new (ish) on here but on the Bike Radar forum there were at least four or five regular posters who although they weren't trolls, would post endless shite that they thought was the received wisdom because they'd read it in The Times of heard it on the BBC. They became self appointed gate keepers of what were "acceptable views" and it all got a bit tedious. It was their equivalent of putting their fingers in their ears and shouting "Ia la la!I" which was why they were all so shocked when they lost the EU referendum and when Trump got elected twice (which was hilarious for the likes of me and Stevo!)

Anyway, I just scroll past the posters I don't like. Easiest thing in the world to do. I don't really get the
problem. It's probably worth reading our MAGA friend's posts if only because he represents the views of a large section of Americans. Just don't criticise his source material or posting style if you don't like him.

How dare people express different views to someone - its causing them trauma and anxiety to read that people hold different views to others.
Imagine a news, current affairs & politics forum where people dare to express differing views instead of all agreeing on everything.

Some may say this is yet another attempt to censor views that are different.

No one is forcing anyone to post on here. If you don't like hearing differing views then a news, current affairs and politics unmoderated forum is probably not the best place to frequent

Spot on. This is no country for old snowflakes.
