Which raises the question as to why Israel with its highly accurate bombing has destroyed Gaza's waste water processing infrastructure (something totally civilian). To me the most obvious reason is to make Gaza uninhabitable for Palestinians so they'll all want to emigrate ... but my levels of cynicism maybe colour explanations that come to my mind?

There's been plenty, most recently from James McLean. The FAI have at least been consistent in saying it will go ahead, with the ramifications (a 3 - 0 loss for non fulfillment) for Irish football being too great.

I meant on here. It just seems a huge contrast with the Sheeran pile on and in the case of the football there is a direct link to Israel whereas Sheeran got dragged in by third-party comments, it’s not like he decided to do a tour in Israel. Are the ramifications for Irish football different to the ramifications for the earnings of Sheeran and his tour management? I would add I think the real fault here is UEFA (and FIFA) being spineless in not banning Israel from competition.

I follow football even less than I follow pop music. In both cases I found out about the issue in here. I think the Irish team choice of playing is wrong and their explanation a cop out. Just my two cents.

Your last sentence is key.

It's a UEFA competition and Israel should have been banned.

Both the Scotland men's and women's teams have had to play Israel in recent years. As well as Austria, Italy and Norway (amongst others), in both FIFA and UEFA competitio
Their domestic clubs should have been banned from European competition too.

Sheeran has just been a bit of a fanny and handled things badly, probably won't harm him long term. But he really should have known that having Macklemore as a support act (even without a wee non anti Semitic speech Haig's Hill is hardcore) and Beoga (founding members of Irish Artists for Palestine) might not go well in the current climate.

But generally NACP is pretty blind to Irish politics, even more so than Northern Irish politics. There's quite a lot of contentious stuff going over there at the moment, with immigration being the same catalyst, and we don't hear a peep on here.

Israel does not have right to close UK consulate in Jerusalem, Foreign Office advised​

Israel has said it intends to shut the consulate on 8 October in response to the sweeping ban on trade with goods from Israeli settlements announced by the foreign secretary, Ed Miliband, this month.

Israel said on Sunday that it planned to revoke the credentials of Dutch diplomats from the country’s mission to Palestine, in response to the Netherlands’ ban on imports from illegal Israeli settlements.

Grieve, who was a Conservative MP between 1997 and 2019 and attorney general from 2010 to 2014, said Israel did not have the right to shut the consulate since it was situated in East Jerusalem, which is recognised by the United Nations and most of its members, including the UK, as being occupied Palestinian territory.
