Forgetting his politics for the moment, this is just terrible writing, let alone for the BBC's Political Editor. "Put like that"? You put it like that, Mason! His level is more like Hello!

I heard Chris Mason recounting his amazing scoop on the radio this morning. And as he was highlighting his tallens crouching below the cameras, etc. we got "and I asked my question" and my thought was, at last, the eg"Mr President, why are you blocking full publication of the Epstein files?" or maybe "Mr President, were you pushed into a disastrous unnecessary war by Metanyahu?". Fantastic opportunity for that probing question.

And we got "Is the prime minister a man you can do business with?". Complete damp squib. And the entire world knows that 10 mins later Trǔmp will give a completely different answer.

I'm feeling Chris Mason is my "straw that broke the camel's back" renewing my TV license or not renewing as it's due in a months and I can't contribute to such diabolical don't know what word as it isn't "reporting".

Re Daniel Thomas and yesterday's events at Gosport & in the Channel, here's what the Telegraph reported

View attachment 17410

and here's what the BBC reported:

The online BBC report has been updated...

...but not with any details of the potentially criminal action by Thomas.

At this stage, it's got to be a conscious omission (that no other media reporting is avoiding), given the criticism it's receiving.

Maybe their requirement for "balance" is the cause - they can't find anybody to defend his actions and presenting only the condemnation side would be "unbalanced"?

Well, there's a thing... the late partial report (still only mentioning Thomas in passing) has slipped down on the main national listing, but the detail about Thomas's actions have belatedly appeared under 'local news' for Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Let's hope not too many people go looking for it, eh?

Update - it's now been promoted to UK news. Quite rightly too.

Genuine question: have any other BBC reporters, let alone a chief reporter, ever been such an easy target for taking the píss?

Mason reminds me of this guy, who was head of news at the Spanish state TV channel during the tenure of the Spanish Conservatives (PP) in the 2000s.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfredo_Urdaci

A couple of episodes seem relevant today
While Urdaci was News Director, the Workers' Commissions (Comisiones Obreras, CC.OO.), Spain's largest trade union, accused TVE of manipulating news reports to favor the government before and during the 2002 general strike, which took place while José María Aznar was president. In compliance with a judge's order, Urdaci read an official correction on the air, but CC.OO. complained that he had read the correction too fast and read the union's acronym instead of its full name. The judge, however, was satisfied.
After the terrorist attacks of 11 March 2004, Urdaci was accused of following the orders of the ruling party by attributing them to ETA and not to Al Qaeda. When the results of the 14 March election was announced, people at Socialist Party campaign headquarters could be heard on live TV chanting slogans against Urdaci.

This has gone over my head I'm afraid.

Depends on seeing the original Mason quote.

What on earth will you have to moan about if you don't renew?
