Ah yes. If I take the wife and kids I'm definitely out over £100 by the time you've done drinks, slushies, pick and mix, pizzas, popcorn etc. That's where the cinemas make their money after all.

I'm struggling to think of a family film that is worth over £100 to watch. Once.
This is why cinema is mostly blockbusters that are better on the big screen and people are streaming everything else.

Well I guess watching the musical in the theatre would have been more than double that.

I'd happily not bother with the popcorn and drinks but the wife always wants them. On the plus side our cinema is £6.99 on the rare occasions we don't get the free tickets that are a perk of various things (TV subscriptions, insurance policies etc.) so still ends up quite cheap.

That's a whole other subject. Yeah, stopped going to the theatre, or major concerts, for that very reason.
Quite happy if it is just me being tight. Each to their own, and good on you, but no thanks.

Back to cinema. Quite happy to pay cinema prices to see something worthwhile but there is little that seems good enough and needs to be seen on the big screen to make me forego waiting for the stream.

Not only is my local cinema the oldest, it’s the cheapest.
It’s currently showing Wicked 2 as well.
The cost for a family of 4? £18!

I tried to book seats for a couple is shows in London as a Christmas treat.
A family of 4 will cost £400 plus to see a show in the balcony, before you factor in travel food etc. some seats were twice that price. Who is paying £250 a seat in the west end?
I ended up booking my local regional panto with B list celebrities. Cost £125 for all of us in the week before Christmas. I’m sure we will have just as much fun for a fraction of the price.

The last film I remember going out to watch was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which I see was 2008. It wasn't bad, but not the most memorable finale to my theatre going. Once upon a time the whole experience was fun; now it's one annoyance after another. Thank god for the comfort of streaming at home.

Yes.
It’s now run by a group of enthusiasts. It’s been completely refurbished and they had planned to open a second screen.
However, the council ran interference for so long, it was eventually shelved.

On a serious note - we do go to the cinema but as previously posted, it tends to be for occasion cinema. So big screen movies where you need full surround sound, a mahoosive immersive screen etc. Plus Cinemas have now upped their game so you can have a glass of wine / beer / cider and a freshly made pizza whilst you watch the film.

I do tend to go to the er... more upmarket cinemas around me. We do have a Vue in Staines which is as cheap as £6.99. We went to see the Barbie movie there. NEVER AGAIN. People were just feral. Letting small kids wander around, shouting at them. I saw one pink velour tracksuited, high ponytailed woman with three kids just filling them pick and mix bags using her hands. Bleurgh. She eventually got thrown out for failing to control any of her kids.

Been there, once.

Stayed in Staines, once.
