Various anecdotes I've seen that suggest he was a deeply unpleasant man to people he didn't consider of any use to him, but 'charming' (in a similar way that Epstein was, I suspect) to those whom he thought could be useful to him and his own advancement.

The stuff about how he was simply forwarding deeply sensitive/secret stuff from government onto Epstein in order to ingratiate himself in that circle indicate that he had no qualms about betraying the UK or the confidence placed in him by those who trusted him.

On the plus side, at least even Blair has avoided making any excuses for his one-time partner in crime.

Generally you need to be convicted of a crime before we send people to prison in the UK.

I don't think many people would argue with that, given the latest revelations. It'll be interesting to see how the police deal with the complaints against him, not least on stuff like insider trading and official secrets.

The EU is now going to investigate Mandelson too, as they have a strict code of conduct for former staff (he draws a pension from his time there as a trade commissioner 2004-2008).

I thought Article 6 was about the right to a fair trial. People in the UK are locked up in prison without a trial sometimes for an extended period (I had the impression 6 months outside Covid).

I don't know if you have ever had the misfortune to visit Hartlepool (where he was MP), but, a more unlikely match is hard to imagine, and, is an insight into many voters decision process. 😂
