I'm 53, and never used them. I think by the mid seventies they were probably a relic already, so not surprised that most people nowadays would not know what a slide rule is.

Yes, calculators were just being allowed for A Level when I was doing them (1981); log tables and slide rules for O Level.

It is actually surprising how many significant figures you can get to with a 12" slide rule.

Verniers are fantastically accurate, and really simple to make. Some analogue technology is hard to beat.
