It is Scotland getting green hydrogen going. Onshore hydrogen will start first. It is still puzzling why hydrogen, for Scotland, should be mainly produced from offshore when its costs well over double the price. In England it is unsaid government policy to protect 2nd home prices.

I noticed BritishVolt has announced that it is to delay priduction by 3 years.
That dead duck should change its name to BritishHydrogen. Blyth could become a centre for production, it being quite ideally placed.

"There is widespread agreement from energy experts on the best solutions: a large-scale and rapid insulation programme and a faster roll-out of wind and solar energy, which produce electricity that is currently about nine times cheaper than that from gas, "

Obviously our 800% surcharge may in future fall.

"The government has consistently failed over the past decade to deliver major insulation programmes and has effectively banned onshore wind."
"Fischer also dismissed the idea that fracking in the UK could alleviate the energy crisis: “It is nonsense.” "

Gruel for us.

I’m trying to get quotes for solar and it’s nigh on impossible to get anyone to even quote . Supply issues due to delays in China also . So don’t know how rapid roll out of solar is going to work .

And pessimist me thinks everyone apart from the UK has placed large orders ahead for wind turbine employment.

They are too busy getting constipated going nuclear on fracking.

The ex Ofgem here gives some good suggestions of what should happen.
https://www.theguardian.com/busines...ergy-for-essential-use-says-former-ofgem-boss

Rather than follow any of thus the UK us being loaded with more and more debt. Also it has to be said that it was excess competition that busted the system pre war. Public ownership of generation alongside proper scientific regulation is needed. The goverment could make a killing if it built and owned onshore windfarms.

It looks too complex and political for Ofgem and ex Ofgem. The point about the standing charge is correct. It is ever more and more a poll tax type thing.
